You’re so vain (You probably think this blog is about you).

by admin on Mar.31, 2010, under Uncategorized

Please guys, stop scaring me!

Funny story. I’ve been getting a little blowback on my Producer Meltdown post. Apparently, a few folks think it hits too close to home. I’ve had some calls and e-mails. Scary lawyer letters might be next.

I think it’s all pretty humorous. Here’s my question to the people sending me the digital stink-eye: Guys, what makes you think I’m talking about you?

I’ve been reminded lately of just how many projects I’ve seen die an untimely death. Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley are paved with deals that died before their time. It doesn’t mean you’re special. It just means you’re playing the game.  (Possibly not that well.)

Beyond that, I’m just plain flattered. First that anyone is reading this blog at all. (Don’t you have something better to do?) Let alone that anyone would actually pay an attorney, thug, or intern to try to get me to take something down. Wow. Take it easy or I’ll start getting a big head and start thinking people might just give a damn about things I say.  (Okay, that might be going a bit too far.)

So good luck with the injunctions / kneecappings / embarrassing magazine subscriptions, guys.  I’ll keep an eye out.   Till then, a word of advice: It’s hard enough to get people to give a damn about your projects when they’re a going concern–once they’re dead (or long dead) nobody cares. It’s time to move on.

I guess I owe some credit to all the producers I’ve worked with in the past who aren’t threatening to sue me or worse over a blog post. Though it would probably be safer to assume they just haven’t seen the blog yet, I’m choosing to ascribe the highest motives to those folks and imagine that they saw it, may have perceived some passing similarity to some project I may have worked on with them once long ago, but decided that I probably did not mean their project, and even if I did, who cares? It’s dead.  Thanks guys.  Things might not have gone so well way back when, but at least we all moved on.  Kudos!
